I have had the privilege and pleasure of knowing and working with Maria-Consuelo Lopez and Linda Brehmer for several years before they helped establish North King County Family Child Care Association.  Their Chapter was supportive of myself as a Provider when I was going through a very bad time with a DEL licensing issue.   They were there for me and believed in me, not only as a Provider, but as a friend.  Both Maria and Linda were heavily involved in setting up CARE and continue to be voluntary staff for CARE.  North King County Family Child Care Association has been one of the leading backers of the Provider Community with strong mentoring skills. They honor and welcome diversity by recognizing the need to offer a wide variety of resources for not only their own members but also other Providers across Washington State.  My personal preference would be for the Provider Community to continue to work together as one Association but I also respect choices, ideas for change and to reach out and promote growth in the childcare profession ... CARE will continue to support all Providers and all Associations with great admiration and respect for all that Providers do in caring for the children of Washington State families.

The NKCFCCA is a strong supporter of family child care providers. Not only do they provide their support through meaningful and relevant low cost and free training, but also through active mentorship. In my networking with the NKCFCCA, I have witnessed them going the extra mile to encourage child care professionalism and good business practices as well as working to increase the resources and opportunities available to improve the quality of life of family child care providers”.

“The Seattle office of the Department of Early Learning is proud to have a long history of working with the North King County Family Child Care Association.  I can remember being invited to a chapter meeting back to when I first started with the agency - we were the Office of Child Care Policy in those days.  That was twelve years ago, and the meeting was held in the home of Michelle Sokolowski in north Seattle.  I was still in the process of moving to King County from the Olympic Peninsula, so I had my 3rd grade son with me and he attended the meeting, also.  We were both warmly welcomed to the meeting, and what better place could there be to bring a  3rd grader than to a meeting at Michelle’s house!  Since that time, I’ve had the pleasure of invitations to several other meetings of the North King County FCCA.  I have always appreciated the members who feel free to call me with questions – whether big issues or small issues – and discuss concerns or kudos.  I have especially appreciated the active role this chapter plays in supporting the community through child care advocacy, provider mentoring, and creating a network for support and exchange of ideas.  I’m looking forward to many more years of collaboration and partnership!”
